Myofunctional therapy focuses on how the muscles of the face, mouth, and tongue function together. At Pure Smiles, we recognise the growing evidence linking oral function, breathing patterns, and overall health, particularly in children.

We work with Jill from Inspirewell, who visits Pure Smiles once a month. Jill founded Inspirewell in 2019 and offers orofacial myofunctional therapy, TMJ therapy, and myofascial release. She works with children from 5 years old through to adulthood.

Myofunctional therapy is often used alongside dental and orthodontic care to address underlying causes rather than symptoms alone.

Aims of Myofunctional Therapy

The four main aims of successful myofunctional therapy are to:

• Achieve correct resting posture of the tongue

• Encourage healthy nasal breathing

• Maintain a closed mouth with good lip seal

• Establish correct swallowing function
